Hi, we're Cheewawa
Honest chihuahua care, training, and health guides — minus the myths. 224 articles and counting, all held to the same sourcing standard.
Cheewawa exists because the internet's chihuahua advice is a mess: recycled listicles, fabricated statistics, and myths that follow this breed everywhere. This site is the version we wished existed — practical guides grounded in what veterinary organizations and breed authorities actually say, written for people who take the world's smallest big personality seriously.
Arjeta Mehmeti
Founder & Author
Arjeta Mehmeti is the founder and editor of Cheewawa. She researches and writes the care, health, and training guides, switching registers with the subject: clinical for health pieces, patient step-by-step for training. Every claim is checked against primary veterinary and breed-club sources before it ships, and the myths that follow this breed around get debunked, not repeated.
Two writers, many registers
Arjeta Mehmeti founded Cheewawa and writes the care, health, and training guides. Teute Hoxha covers the breed, rescue, and reported-story desk. The writing deliberately changes register with the subject: health guides read clinical and careful, training guides are patient and step-by-step, and the Stories section runs lighter, sometimes tongue-in-cheek. Two writers, same standards, different voice for different jobs.
How this site works
Sources or it doesn't ship. Health and behavior claims are checked against primary organizations — veterinary manuals, the AKC and national breed clubs, the AVMA and ASPCA — and linked so you can read what they read. When the honest answer is "ask your own veterinarian," that's what the article says.
No fear, no fluff. No invented statistics, no panic-bait, no thousand-word intros. If a claim about this breed can't be traced to a real source, it gets debunked or left out.
Fun stays labeled. The Stories section carries the lighter side — humor and fiction alongside real rescue features. Anything that isn't straight reporting is written so you can tell.
How we use AI
We use AI tools in drafting and research, and we would rather say so than let you find out. A named writer is responsible for everything that ships, and every health or behavior claim is checked against the primary sources linked in the article — if a source does not say it, it does not run.
Illustrations inside articles are AI-generated and captioned "Image: Cheewawa (AI-generated)" beneath the picture, so you always know what you are looking at. They illustrate a point; they are never presented as photographs of a specific dog or event. The photograph at the top of an article is a real photograph, licensed and credited to the person who took it.
